A bedtime routine for your best Zzz’s
Before you dive under the covers, there are a few simple things you can do to ease your way into a restorative night’s rest. We know you’ve heard this before, but it bears repeating: powering off well before turning in for the night goes a long way in determining how well you sleep.
Our steps for better bedtime sleep hygiene will help you wake up on the right side of the bed.
Sleep fact: Less screen time means higher-quality sleep time.
Bringing your smartphone to bed is a hard habit to break — and most of us have done it even if we know the constant connection isn’t good for us. But our addiction to scrolling comes at our sleep’s expense — the screens on our laptops, smartphones, tablets, and TVs emit blue light that keep us alert, inhibit sleep, and may even cause insomnia.
Sleep fix: If you really want to transform your sleep, the little things you do (or don’t do) at bedtime count for a lot. First up, power down your devices well before bedtime to allow yourself time to unwind. Second, keep smartphones, tablets, laptops, and TVs out of the bedroom as you turn in for the night.
Sleep fact: Creating a tranquil space for sleep helps your Zzz’s.
Good sleep hygiene belongs in the bedroom and can help lull you into a quality night’s rest. Everything from the temperature of your bedroom to noise level and how dark it is all contribute to how well you wind down.
Sleep fix: As you prep for bed, be sure to take your Remrise and stash your phone and all other electronics away for the night. To create the ultimate sleep oasis, spray your favorite lavender essential oil, grab your sleep mask and, if necessary, ear plugs before you drift into dreamland.
Sleep fact: Striking the right sleep pose is important.
The position you sleep in can greatly impact your sleep and, according to Sleep.org, can contribute to neck pain, fatigue, muscle cramping, and even sleep apnea. They list sleeping on your back as the best position for good rest, and sleeping on your stomach the worst.
